“Fitness Formula and the Fit for Life Challenge have enabled me to meet my weight loss and fitness goals. As a former college athlete, who suffered an ACL tear over 30 years ago, I have struggled to find a workout that was both challenging and sustainable. I want to see results, but not go so hard that I avoid the gym. Fitness Formula’s combination of interval training and heart rate zones is the answer.
Because we consistently come back to “base pace,” I’ve been able to avoid swelling and re-injury to my knee. The heart rate zones ensure that I keep to the specified level of intensity; and if that means walking while my heart rate recovers, then I walk. I’m focused on hitting my zones, and I go as hard or as easy as I need to go to do that. I also love the combination of cardio and strength training. I’ve never loved lifting, but the use of barbells combined with body weight exercises, and the constant movement and flow from one exercise to another, keeps the strength portion interesting, and my heart rate elevated. While I did some cardio at home, Fitness Formula was the only strength training I did during the Challenge, and at the end of it all, I lost 20 pounds of fat, keeping my muscle mass constant.
The Fitness Formula trainers were key to my results as well. They do a great job of encouraging us and correcting our form. When it was time for the Challenge, I consulted with Shreena, and realized I needed to control my portions. Through use of a food tracking app that automatically incorporated my MYZONE readings into my calorie count, I saw the benefits to be gained from consistent workouts. I really am in the best shape I’ve been in for years. A big shout out and thank you to Kevin and all the trainers!”
“Sometimes life just happens. A new job brings pressure and stress eating. An injury hinders the ability to exercise. The result is a bad combination of being out of shape, uncomfortable in your own skin, and trying to find a way out of the hole. That’s where I was a year ago. I tried the latest fad diets. I tried strict exercise regimens. I tried what had worked in the past. I experimented with new things. Each attempt was started in good faith but ended within a week or two. I just couldn’t put all the pieces together for any length of time. I was cycling through options and ended up on an emotional rollercoaster. I was ready to try again when the Fitness Formula announced their Fit 4 Life Challenge. Maybe being accountable to someone other than me was what I needed. It couldn’t hurt, right? So I signed up and went in for my before weigh-in. I didn’t do the before picture. The thought of that image being documented was too harsh of a reality. I closed my eyes and had them do the weight and body fat reading. I didn’t really want to know the numbers, but I knew I needed to. It was then that I made a commitment to come in to the gym four times a week for the next 12 weeks and eat better. I was made accountable. I went in to the gym and worked my backside off (literally and figuratively). The trainers made sure I wasn’t slacking off. There was no escape. They commented on changes they were seeing in me, and they encouraged me to keep going. But it didn’t stop there. I tracked my calories and started eating better. I rediscovered the joy of running. My lifestyle was changing beyond the gym. Over the course of the 12 weeks of the challenge, I found myself again. I found the healthy me that was buried under the fat and unhappiness. For the first time in years I am ready for summer and shorts season. Without the structure and accountability of the Fit 4 Life Challenge I may have still been trying to find my way off the rollercoaster. Instead I’m training for a half marathon. So yes, sometimes life happens. But sometimes life is good, and I can proudly say that I can see that again.”
